Kenya Roper, LSW, MSW
NJ Certified School Social Worker Student Support Expert
Kenya Roper is a dedicated Student Support Expert with over 20 years of experience in early childhood, preschool, and school-based services. A Newark native, Kenya developed a passion for helping children, particularly those who struggle emotionally due to trauma, negative influences, and distractions. She recognizes that many children, especially those in challenging environments, are deprived of positive emotional support, which can impact their long-term well-being. After earning her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Ramapo College, Kenya responded to the call for leadership by becoming the Assistant Director of a residential facility with Volunteers of America, where she guided youth transitioning to adulthood. She supervised a team of employees and worked directly with twelve youths in need of emotional and social support. Kenya went on to serve as a preschool social worker at Newark Preschool Council Head Start for nine years, managing over 80 children across 11 sites. Her role involved providing critical support to children ages 3-5 and their families. In addition to her work with young children, Kenya later returned to graduate school to complete her Master’s in Social Work while also leading a before- and aftercare program for K-5 students in the Kearny school district. Throughout her career, Kenya has specialized in assessments, IEPs, 504 accommodations, intervention planning, counseling, and social-emotional support, particularly for children and families dealing with grief, loss, compassion fatigue, and other emotional challenges. She believes that investing in the mental and emotional health of young people is essential to fostering generational health and creating positive, lasting change in the community.

TESTIMONIALS
My daughter enjoyed the camp! Everyday she looked forward to attending and that speaks volumes! We also loved the small groups setting which allows for more attentiveness and support as needed where needed.
-Pitts/Diaz Family
Both of my boys absolutely loved camp and making new friends. My oldest said almost daily how it’s the best summer camp he’s ever been to! It was my youngest first summer camp and definitely a highlight of his summer. The things that stood out to them the most were the crafts, fun field trips and the 5 calming techniques.
-Dunlap Family
When I asked about summer camp, she mentioned she liked it and she was rather to have a sleepovers so that just speak to the experience she had when being there feeling feeling welcome feeling her seen and also learning more about herself and growing with others.
-McLean Family
I loved the reflection mirror and the journal.
Elyana still likes to use it some days.

Ms. K. Roper worked with my Kindergarten class on Social Emotional Learning, and her impact was remarkable. She created engaging, inclusive lessons that addressed the needs of the entire class while ensuring no student was singled out. Through activities like think-pair-share and hands-on lessons, along with visual aids, Ms. Roper helped my students develop valuable emotional and social skills. The resources she provided have been incredibly helpful, and I would have loved more time with her to further support my students’ growth.

I went to the Open House of Young Miindz Summer Camp on June 3rd. I was Pleasantly Surprised at how Functional the space was. Kenya did a wonderful job at making sure all the necessary Activities and Curriculum was there for the children to have a very productive day. The Place was Bright and Cheerful with a lot of Natural Light coming from the Window. I took my Granddaughter with me & she really enjoyed herself.
